History HISTORY OF GODSTONE. The following history of our Village is abridged and taken from the script of our Pageant that was produced to celebrate the millennium.
Richard Stilgo kindly narrated the entire Pageant. Medieval Times. Godstone was known. Godstone, a village and a parish in Surrey. The village stands on Broadmead Water, on the line of a Roman road, under Tilburstow Hill, 8 miles NNW of Godstone station on the S.E.R., 3 SSE of Caterham, 6½ E by N of Reigate, and 20 from London.

The church of St Nicholas lies half a mile from the village of Godstone, which may originally have been a farm, Goda’s Ton. The church was part of the Saxon village of Wolcnested, also Wachelsted, later Walkingstead.

Subjects. The only obvious survival is the Hundreds Knoll, now marked by a small memorial set on the north side of the Godstone Road (A22), to the west of Tandridge Hill Lane.
